Po pierwszej połowie goście prowadzili dwoma golami po bramkach Gomeza i Izco, a oprócz słabej gry w obronie, do obrazu nędzy i rozpaczy dołączyli też sędziowie, którzy przy bramce na 0-2 nie widzieli 2 metrowego spalonego jednego z graczy gości. W drugiej połowie Inter zaprezentował się o wiele lepiej i wyrównał dzięki strzałom Forlana i Milito. W doliczonym czasie gry Nerazzurri mogli odnieść zwycięstwo, ale snajperskie umiejętności Giampaolo Pazziniego nie pozwoliły mu na strzelenie gola z dwóch metrów (akcja powinna być przerwana bowiem napastnik przyjmował piłkę ręką).
